WINTER FISHING FOR TROUT & STEELHEAD
Winter is a unique time to experience fishing in the Wood River Valley. We can pretty much guarantee solitude, and the scenery on the river at this time of year is simply stunning. As much of the wildlife gathers in the river corridor during the winter months the opportunity to see a variety of birds and animals is ever present. Trout typically pod up in slower water at this time of year so they are easy to find, with not a lot of food present they are eager to come to your fly. Many local fishermen consider the winter months to be the absolute best time to fish, another great option for a winter outdoor adventure.
Carve & Cast
Sun Valley, Idaho is recognized as one of the world’s premiere ski and sport destinations, and one of our best-kept secrets is the outstanding winter fishing on the beautiful Big Wood River and surrounding waters. Imagine carving up freshly groomed snow on Baldy by morning, then casting flies to hungry trout in the warmth of a late winter afternoon.
Our spring sea-run steelhead season spans mid-March through April on the famed Salmon River…a truly spectacular drive only 90 minutes north of Sun Valley.
Our trips are ideal for one or two anglers (a third may be added for a modest surcharge) and include an experienced SVMG guide, all necessary flies, and transportation… everything except sales tax, license, equipment rental, and gratuities. Our angling is all walk and wade, and/or float-tube fishing. Guests meet their guide at Sturtevants on Main Street in Ketchum.
