Steve Ashburn is a name that has become synonymous with expert boot fitting, and with Steve’s 43 years in the industry, he has gained a level of knowledge that is unparalleled. Steve is originally from Great Falls, MT, but has lived in Ketchum with his wife Cindy since the 70’s.
Traveling with the World Cup for three years as a tech for Raichle/Tyrolia/Head and being directly involved in Flexon development gave Steve an opportunity to learn about ski boots at the highest level. After his stint working on the World Cup, Steve decided to open his own business and started Precision Boot in 1982, which at the time was the second “boots only” shop in the entire country. While Steve was running Precision Boot, he continued to be involved with product research and development with Raichle, Technica, and Superfeet.
In 1992, Steve was introduced to the concept of the Intuition Thermo Liner. Steve was intrigued as this product made boot fitting a whole lot simpler. Steve went to work with Intuition in Vancouver and was an integral part in bringing the product to market.
After selling Precision Boot in 2000, Steve stayed with Intuition and became the U.S. distributor. After seven years in the liner business, Steve left and tried his hand at retirement, which, in his words “was not a good fit.” Steve has decided to return to the industry, and we are honored that he has come on board with us at Sturtevants Warm Springs.
Apart from curing people’s boot problems, Steve enjoys skiing (on water and snow), biking, bird hunting, and traveling. In the winter, you can find Steve six afternoons a week at Sturtevants Warm Springs, so come see a true expert to get fit for Intuition Liners, custom foot beds, or solve any boot fitting issues or problems you may have.
