With kids starting to go back to school and the summer winding down, the stresses on the big wood should dwindle and give relief to some better fishing. Do keep an eye out for thunderstorms up valley. These storms this past week have blown out the Big Wood periodically. Size 8 hecubas and size 12 redquils have created some nice surface action. the better fishing on the upper big lost has moved to mid day. Brighter size 12 stimulators, hoppers or an orange pmx are recommended. If fish aren’t rising, add a tan bead head prince nymph size 16 dropper or a rubber legs copper john. It’s hopper time on the South Fork of the Boise. Fish can be a little picky, so pack a few extra hopper patterns. afternoons are better here. Go late stay late and you may get into a nice caddis hatch in the evening. Water flows are hovering right around 600cfs which makes wading possible but be careful out there. Silver Creek’s baetis and calibaetis hatches continue with size 22 and 24 being the go to size. Come to the friendliest shop in town to get your adventures started off right!
